What Is Pure Mineral Oil?

Pure Mineral Oil provides excellent protection and sheen to sustainable materials, enhancing their natural colour and character. It's tasteless, odourless, colourless and food safe, so perfect for use in the foodservice industry.

It can be applied to a wide range of sustainable products, including bamboo boards, wooden crates, slateboards and round marble boards. On natural slate boards, the impact is most noticeable. Natural slate looks vibrant after being treated with oil as shown in the before and after photos below.

How To Apply Pure Mineral Oil

Make sure the surface of your slate board is clean and free of any dust or dirt. The slate should be allowed to dry entirely before applying pure mineral oil if you wiped it with a damp cloth.

Take a clean, lint-free cloth and pour a small amount of oil. There is no need to use a lot, a little goes a long way!

Gently rub the oil on to the slateboard in a circular motion distributing it evenly, until it covers the whole surface. Ensure you get the sides as well! You'll need to keep adding oil and rubbing until the board becomes glossy and doesn't absorb any more oil.

Allow the food-safe oil to absorb into the slate board for a few minutes then wipe back over it with the cloth to remove any excess oil. Leave for a minimum of two hours, but ideally overnight. Finish by buffing the surface of the slate with a clean soft cloth for a silky sheen finish.

Keeping your slateboard well-oiled will ensure your slate serving boards stay vibrant and looking like new for years to come.

What Materials Can I Use Pure Mineral Oil On?

Besides slate serving boards, Pure Mineral Oil is also useful for enhancing and rejuvenating our bamboo, wood and marble catering and hospitality products.

Take our metal display risers with interchangeable serving boards, for instance. The oil can be used on any of the countertop stand combinations. Mineral oil will maintain the natural colour of bamboo boards and bamboo bowls without discolouration, provide a deep richness to round slate boards and keep marble boards looking luxurious.

If you're unsure, it's a good idea to test a small area on the underside of a product before applying to the whole product.
